After the third event, the an-nouricer stepped (?) into the ring and made a short address, starting with a word of thanks, on behalf of the spectators, to the competitors for the excellent afternoon's entertainment they had been provided with. He then added that this was the last of the Spring gymkhanas to be held by the Columbia Riding School, but took the opportunity of thanking them, on behalf of the Shanghai Branch of the Pony Club, for their offer to put their school at the disposal, once again, of the Branch.
In connection with the Pony Club he added that Mr. A. E. Arnhold (who, in company with Mr. J. K. Storrs judges so admirably at locat gymkhanas) had taken on the arduous duties of District Commissioner and that a programme of rallies and lectures, culminating with a gymkhana at the end of May, would be commenced on May 1.
He than called upon Mrs, Telfer-Smollett to present prizes to the successful competitors and she handed them the handsome cups put up xy the riding school.
A wonderfully successful and most enjoyable afternoon was concluded with the presentation of a bouquet to Mrs. Telfer-Smollett, to the accompaniment. of three very hearty cheers.
