Conscience Put Before Brute Strength, Says President

PEOPLES

Washington, Oct. 12, Broadcasting in celebration of Pulaski Day, President Roosevelt today paid tribute to Poland's struggle for freedom, which he cited as typical of the American ideal of free peoples.

"We, as a nation, seek spiritual union with all who love freedom," the President said. "Composed of many bloods, diverse in national origins, we stand before the world to-day as one people united in a common determination. That determination' is to uphold the ideal human society which makes conscience superior to brute strength—an ideal that would substitute freedom for force among the governments of the world."—United.
