"It will be possible to obtain economic yields for s&veral years as long as the presen conservative A.B.C. periodical tapping system is employed," said Mr. W. Mellor, chairman, at the seventeenth annual eral meeting of shareholders of Kota Bahroe Rubber Estates (1921), Ltd, on Friday. The meeting was held ili the registered office of 7 the company, 20 Canton Road (A. R. Burkill & Sons, Ltd.) at 1145 am. Shares present totalled 60,702.
"The chairman saidi—Before proceeding with the ordinary business of the meeting it is my painful duty to refer to the loss your Board has sustained by the death of Col. T. E. Trueman, OBE, who passed away whilst en route {o England to retre. He served on the Board of the company continuously since its formation in 1910 and his wise counsel was at all times at the disposal of his fellow directors who now deplore his loss and extend their sincere sympathy to his wife and family.
In my report last year I stated that 50 acres on Kota Bahroe Estate had been felled for replanting and I am pleased to be able to inform you that our visiting agent gives a very good account of the area in his report dated June 19 of this year The following is an extract: "The rea forms an excellent replanting and as far as I have seen is one of the best in Malaya. Growth of the seedlings is excellent; they have a healthy and very vigorous growth appearing, many of them being over seven feet high which is very good for six months' growth."
"The area for replanting during 1937 on both estates has been cleared and at the date of the visiting agent's report, June 27 of this year, it was anticipated that all planting would be completed in the near future when climatic conditions were most favourable for that work to be carried out, Your directors have sanctioned the replanting of a further 43 acres on Kota Bahroe and 20 acres on Canning. These areas are being suitably tapped now with a view to cutting out early in 1938 and replanted with new stock later in the year.
