Nevertheless, accompanying sub-titles, both in Chinese and English, make for easy understanding and the action is developed by a minimum of dialogue. As a matter of fact no syllable is uttered during the first five minutes, while at other times the acting indicates plot development, without employing dialogue, The film portrays the struggle between small German and English parties for the control of huge areas of African country and the action centres particularly about two such groups, with bosom friends respectively commanding them, one English the other German. There is vigour and vitality in the interpretation of the roles of commanders, played by Messrs, Sepp Rist and Peter Voss, and their actions ring true without mawkish patriotism intruding. Miss lise Strobawa, providing the roman-tie interest, makes the mest of a role which does not call for a too great dramatic interpretation—r.t1.
