Japanese troops in North Shantung are now preparing to cross the Yellow River with Tsinanfu as the objective, declared the military spokesman to-day. The line of crossing is to cover a considerable distance, stretching from Chiyang, 25 miles down the river from the railway bridge, to some miles above the bridge, The spokesman added that the bridge had been badly damaged, about 300 metres having been blown up.

The Japanese decision to force a crossing is generally interpreted as evidence that Gen. Han Fu-chu, chairman of Shantung, will not secede. but will fight—Reuter.
