In common with other concerns, the Telephone Company learned many lessons during the 1982 trouble which proved invaluable during the emergency just passed. Among the more important of these preparations was a special emergency staff organiza-lion, with centralized control, which operated immediately the state of emergency was declared. Another scheme evolved from past experience resulted in the perfect bason between the Company and the various defence forces. This bason was organized in 1933 and resulted in the S.V.C. Signals company containing a nucleus of twenty volunteers from the Company's staff. A member of the Telephone Company actually commanded the Signals Company during the 1937 emergency. Twelve of the men stood by. at the Telephone Company for communication work of all kinds in the military controlled areas; four comprised a bason section with the headquarters of the foreign defence forces and the remaining four assisted the S.V.C, communications.
