London, Jan, 6.
The news that the Japanese military established a censorship over the cable and radio service at Shanghai has created a big stir here. The papers fear that this new measure as well as the demands submitted to the Shanghai Municipal Council on Tuesday -may lead to new complications.
The "Evening Standard" publishes a statement issued by the Japanese Embassy in London ich points out that the economic interests of the foreigners are not affected by the occupation of the Shanghai cable and radio stations or by the introduction of Japanese censorship.
The paper, however. believes that the matter may precipitate a serious conflict between the Japanese and foreign residents of Shanghai. The text of the demands addressed by the Japanese to the Municipal Council has been cabled to London and Washington, according to the paper, which regards it as improbable that the Municipal Council will reply to the demands before the British and American Governments have stated their attitude.—Trans-Oceaàn.
