In Malaya defensive measures against air attacks have been receiving the same attention which they are exciting elsewhere among all nations, and the Civil Government is ce-operating on this occasion as regards the practice of "blackouts."
The "blackout" will not be applied to the whole island of Singapore, but the tests will be confined to certain selected areas so as to limit to a minimum, any inconvenience to the inhabitants.
Air units normally stationed at Singapore will be strengthened by the addition of certain squadrons from India and Iraq. This will bring the total aircraft taking part in the exercises to well over 100 and will provide additional practice, on a limited scale, in the rapid movement of air reinforcements from distant commands.
The defending force will be commanded by Maj.-Gen. William George Dobbie, General Officer Commanding Malaya, since 1935, and Air Vice Marshal Arthur William Tedder, Air Officer Commanding the Royal Air Force in the Far East, since 1
