SHANGHAI NOTES

Shanghai Cricket

Exciting struggles left the local cricket championship in the joint hands of three teams, the Wanderers, the Armoured Car Company and the Shanghai Recreation Club. If any individual has to be singled out for his contribution to that result perhaps it should be H. H. Morris. With E.H. Anstice, in a memorable ninth wicket stand a fortnight ago, he put on 74 runs and won for the Wanderers a notable victory over the Armoured Cars, his own contribution to the unbroken partnership being 43 not out. Then, on Saturday, when the Nomads had to take only three Wanderers' wickets with a margin of 36 runs in hand, he joined E.K, Quick to reduce that margin to 13 and on his partner's dismissal joyously helped H.E. Crickmer to make the winning hit which besides depriving the Nomads of two points, prevented the Armoured Cars from sharing exclusively the first place with the Recreation Club. Incidentally he marked the victory by a gorgeous six in the same over. Generally the season has produced cricket well up to standard, even if in entertaining Hongkong and in visiting Hankow, Shanghai had to look sourly on its Interport achievements. If no new reputations have been made, old ones have been enhanced especially by the perfor-

each.
