The centre of this experiment. which has already been tried and proved on a score of patients... is Newcastle.

Mr. George Hornsby, inventor of the new "heart recording" system, yesterday told the whole story of his unusual invention to a "Daily Sketch" reporter, This is only the start of it," he declared, the idea is capable of the widest medical application.

Not only can heart sounds be recorded, but lung and breathing faults, speech defects... anything in which sound is a factor, When they are played over doctors can detect clearly faults that they might never have suspected other-"wise. Another angle is the recording of a patient's breathing or heart-beats at different stages of an illness, for purposes of comparison.

Records of a particular patient can also be sent to London to be checked over by famous specialists, who could thus diagnose at a distance and save substantial time and expense.

Mr. Hornsby, whose experiments have been carried out in his own private workshops and studio at his home in Gosforth, is not interested in his system as a commercial proposition, but wants to improve it solely from humanitarian reasons.
