A motorist was awarded £100 damages against a woman pedestrian at Ipswich County Court recently states the "Manchester Guardian."
William Brent, of Sidegate Lane, Ipswich, sued Mrs. Anne Johnson, of Abbey Gardens, London, stating that while he was driving up a hill a man came out of a house about forty yaris ahead, crossed the road, and, after looking up and down, gave a signal with his hand. The woman ran from the house in front of his car. He tried to avoid her but failed, and the car hit a grass bank. He received a bad sprain, bruises, and shock.
Mrs. Johfson contended that the injuries were the result more of some other cause than of the accident. After looking both ways, she thought. she had ample time to cross. She herself suffered from shock and other injuries. She would not agree that her s signal was not to cross.
Judgment was given for Brent with costs, and a counter-claim for £17 8s. was dismissed.
