The Orchestra

Hostilities Again Reopened

To the Editor of the "Nortn-Cutva Dairy News"

Sm;—The delightful and beautifully polished letter signed Marc T GREEN is timely, Until another really good news story breaks, why should we not unleash the violently aggressive defenders—it would be silly to say supporters—of the Municipal Orchestra after a little preliminary goading.

Unnecessary fuss would be spared the general public if we could arrange for their gushing and atwaќory garblings to be heard in the first place ju camera, by a nice select committee of, deaf mutes. This, however, is probably not practicable, Even in Shanghai, it is difficult, for all that vast majority out of reach of the proper strings, to make such convenient arrangements.

I can't agree that we should be so niggling as to stop at a couple of decorations for the well paid leader of our professional orchestra, when for a odd eleven dollars a head we could give each musician a nice shiny medal, or for only a few dollars more we could combine real generosity with sound economy by naming a smallish inconspicuous street after each one, Then, while they were still dazed, we could shoo them off the public pay roll.

A desperate—alternative—surely thoroughly unreasonable—is to retain the more or less ever-welling source of our aesthetic bliss, and firmly in: that the customers defray the cost of their show before they meander through the portals, Lime Wu.
