Miss Pamela Barton, making her first attempt for the English Women's golf, championship at Aldeburgh—it is odd to think that she should have won both the British and American championships and never even tried for this one—sailed through two or three rounds in a manner that suggested she had recovered her form, and then was beaten by a local player, Afiss Winn, at the 2ist hole, What fan ordeal. Mrs, Goron was another of the giantesses' who went out before the semifinal, Miss Elsie Corlett, the Lancashire champion, so often trying for the big events but never with luck, had a narrow squeak on the same day, but lived to win the nal after a desperate ght with Miss Winn, Tt was her third occasion of reaching the final and her 13th try for the English championship; so evidently 13 is not an unlucky number for her, Miss Barton hits the same prodigiously long ball ever, but has become erratic on her short game. One hears it said that she practises too much. Perhaps a year of no golf at all, of cold mutton, Hee pudding and steady application to the schoolroom would do her good alt round.
