The first five minutes saw the bail moving quickly from one end of the field to the other with several scrums and midfield plays intervening. At the end of this period, the Blacks attacked and the ball was taken well down the pitch. From an ensuing passing movement in which all the threes participated, J. W. M. Martin secured and showing a clean pair of heels, easily eluded his tacklers to run round and touch down between the posts. Rigg converted with a good kick.
The Whites retaliated and several efforts to force the ball over the line failed by the closest of margins. Good passing among the threes was seen om both sides, but keen tackling nullified all movements until twenty minutes had elapsed when, after the Blacks' had been hammering at their opponents' line for several minutes, Auccott secured and went over near the left corner flag for an unconverted try.
Shortly afterwards the rain came down in torrents and the Whites, quick to take advantage of the slippery state of the ground, reduced the leeway when Read scored between the posts, The kick, taken by the scorer, failed.
The second period saw the Whites continually on the attack, one foot rush after another and kicking ahead and quick following up having the Blacks all at sea. Innes scored shortly after the resumption to be followed immediately after by Richmond who also went over. This left the Blacks one point behind, but playing with continued vigour and spirit the Whites went further ahead, Richmond and White crossing the line before the final whistle sounded to bring the score up to 15-8 in the Whites' favour, all the tries in the second half being unconverted.
