A north country Councillor declared ihat he was not a bit surprised about the extra sixpence on income tax, in fact he had expected it, for mention was made of it in the Bible. To his listener's expressed surprise he explained: "Look at the four last words in the 43rd. verse of the ninth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles and you'll see how I knew there was going to be an increase."
With that he left his friend who promptly went home and looked up the chapter referred to. These he read, in the four last words tioned: "One Simon a tánner can get a laugh in some spots even out of an increase in taxation.
