Chinese Urged to Ignore Alleged Peace Rumours

Chungking, Feb. 3.

An appeal to the Chinese nation not to be misled by Japanese reports of alleged peace moves is contained in a circular telegram alleged to have been sent by 33 public bodies in North China.

The telegram states:

Alter prolonged hostilities, the Japanese have failed to accomplish their objectives.

Their military and financial resources are approaching exhaustion.

Japan is also isolated in international relations.

Therefore, Japan is obliged io seek peace, but, mowing the determination of the Chinese Government not to discuss this subject, the Japanese jate at present spreading reports that Chinese public bodies or prominent Chinese individuals like Marshal Wu Pei-fu are urging peace.

Meanwhile, Japanese military preparations are continuing. This shows that Japan is only using the alleged peace moves to create internal dissension among the Chinese. We must not let such tactics influence our determination to continue the war of resistance. We must fight for final victory in any—cireumstances.—Reuter.
