The SRC's 3rd, Extra _meeting with its usual allotment of races for his year's sub griffins was run off on Saturday afternoon. Interest centred on the Sub Griffins' Trial Plate, their first classic of the season, and the Perth Plate which saw a field of eight Ast-class ponies.
Tu the Sub Trial Plate, What Thing confirmed previous successes by winning from Gay Moth and completing a "hat trick." Gay Moth ran 8 good second. Time was slow and the race did not reveal any outstanding performers amongst this year's sub griffins.
Tu the Perth Plate over 1% miles the' ever-popular Boston Drill took hhis usual position in the lead and maintained it throughout the race to pass the winning post many lengths ahead of his field. With no Opera Eve to challenge him he made easy work of the race, covering the Champion distance in time and style that provided his large number of followers with a good pointer to his chances for the great race itself. Maitland made the frst mile rather too fast and seemed to be unaware that the field were so far behind him the last quarter.
The Perth Stakes brought out a field of eight Is, class ponies with Don Augusta unaccountably made heavy favourite: for once the public erred in their judgment in overlooking the better form of Boston Drill and. Frostylight.
Racing at Kiangwan on Sunday was marked by some good finishes and some good times, while Haimoviten distinguished himself by' winning four races: Merry Vic's win bby a neck in the eleventh race was due' to this tider's terrific efforts in the last few lengths.
Gold Vase, it seems almost need~ tess to say, won his race, the Sutton Plate.
The card ended with a big upset, John Sparke bringing home Lov. 'Scout to pay $709, Graceful Sun running second and 'Army Signal third. The 1% mille' race was won 10-4/5.
