Mr. F. B, Walker

A lengthy illness, which, though it falled to keep him to his house altogether, for ko ever was anxious to be out and about with his friends and looking after business, steadily undermined what must have been 8 splendid constitution, terminated on that. Glasgow born, share of the dry humour which would seem to be any Glaswegian's birthright, and there would have been something seriously wrong during any ten minutes of his life if he was not giving full play to it. His friends are not clear as to his first arrival in Shanghai, but it must have been some 35 years ago. He was with the Standard Oil Ca. in England, JAmerica, the Straits, and eventually Shanghai, and, when Mr. A.D. Anderson retired from the Siock Exchange, Mr. Walker took over the business, his wit and his business ability quickly establishing him as a Jereat favourite there.

He was a sportsman through and through, keen on all games, as again are all Glaswegians, but with a spe-cell passion for yachting and lawn owls, these pastimes associating him with the Shanghai Yacht Club and the Junior Golf Club. He was hon. secretary of the former during some of the best of its good old days and also during its darker times, when he proved to be one of its strongest pillars and gave the greatest assistance to other veterans of his day in keeping it going. It has been many years since he took an active part Ju sailing, but his occasional visits to the Yacht Club's headquarters and his dry comments on modern fancies In boats always added to the fun, He was an old and very popular member of the Shanghai Club, with passion for proving that it was the worst-run establishment of its kind in the world, but always it was '2 question whether he or his hearers rst would burst into laughter, for this perfectly harmless "grousing" was a great part of his fun. The friendly and hospitable little man will be sadly missed.

'A cremation service for Mr. Walker was held in the Bubbling Well Cemetery Chapel, on Friday, in the presence of a large attendance of mourners. The service was conduct ed by the Rev. C. W. Allan.
