Gen, Francisco Franco's Nationalist forces today opened the power dams in the Tromp sector and flooded the Ebro River in a vain effort to halt the Republican offensive which has smashed the Nationalist drive on Barcelona.
Republican pontoons across the Ebro were reported to have been damaged by the floods, but the Republican lines held. Republican di: patches said their lines of communica-lion had been endangered by the floods at twelve points, but that communications had not been cut.
