Italian Ambassador

Honoured — Given Highest Award for Authors in Rome

Rome, May 15.

Marquis F. M. Taliani de Marchio, Italian Ambassador to China, now in Shanghai, was awarded the "solemn praise" of the Royal Academy of Italy in a recent ceremony attended by King-Emperor Victor Emmanuel Til, -the Stefani News Agency reported here today.

The award was given the diplomat for the literary excellence of a biography of Enrico Cardinal Gas-parti, former Secretary of State of the Vatican. The Academy's mention is the highest distinction an Italian author can obtain for a single work, the Mussolini Prize being awarded only to the entire production of a writer.

Marquis de Marchio's book, entitled the "Life of Cardinal Gasparri," has been one of the best sellers in Italy.
