Recruiting in Great Britain

Following the Prime Minister's recent announcement in the House of Commons that the Territorial Field Army, which was then on a peace establishment of 130,000 men, would soon be raised to war establishment and then doubled in numbers, so reaching a total of 340,000 men, there has been a heartening response from Britain's young men.

Many regiments have not only filled their first line, but also the second line and are being compelled to refuse recruits. The pictures on this page illustrate the scenes of a typical infantry unit, the London Irish A recruit is sworn-in.
