Oppose New Deal Group

Washington, Aug. 23

The likelihood of a party split was regarded as a logical development of the recently-ended bitter session of Congress, which saw both the right and left wings of the New Deal group weakened and the conservative southern Democrats emerging as possible challengers to the New Deal in 1940, It was believed in most quarters that President Roosevelt was ready to carry his protest to the American people regarding the wreckage of his legislative programme, and that he might even cell a special session of Cottgress in November to obtain some of his objectives, although such a session would primarily be sum-thoned for the purpose of obtaining cxOp-surplus control amd wages and hours legislation.—United Press,
