Seathing Comment by "The Times"; Japan Has Long Way to Go London, Oct. 22.
The swift fall of Canton and the apparent implication that Hankow will shortly follow, have created amazement in Great Britain, where the news is given prominence in the newspapers.
That the end is not yet, is the conclusion drawn by the "Daily Telegraph," which recalls that the Japanese offensive was planned months ago and delayed, owing to the proximity of Hongkong and the fear of international complications.
Evidently, the journal declares, Japan has now resolved that the latter risk is worth taking, in view of the chance it has offered of force ing a decision.
It seems, says the "Daily Telegraph," that Japan is still determined to pursue the war as long as Gen. Chiang Kai-shek remains the head of the Government.
