San Francisco, Oct. 21.
Andre Shelaeff, welterweight champion of the Orient in training here for his American debut on October 28 against Johnny Fasano, today created a gymnasium sensation when he badly punished George Salvatore in a three round workout.
Salvatore took so much punishment, even with sixteen ounce gloves, the workout was cut short.
It is noteworthy that Salvatore, a rated welter, went ten rounds on May 21 of last year with Ceferino Garcia without once going down, although he dropped the decision.
Among other men Salvatore has met are Milt Aron, Chuck Woods, Frankie Genovese, Harold Brown, Gordon Wallace and Eddie Carroll.
Shelaeffs feat in so severely battering Salvatore today with sixteen ounce gloves caused profound incredulity among sports writers, who did not know what to make of the performance.
