"Ho Great Britain, who is now living in retirement in Shanghai, declared "yesterday that he was gratified to observe the solidarity of the Chinese people who are resolutely united on the vital matter of resisting Japanese aggression, Dr. Sze also stated that he was much impressed with the unanimity of editorial opinion expressed. by newspapers published by the various occidental groups at Shanghai—American, British, French end other nationalities—with unanimous accord condemning Japanese aggression and methods of warfare.
Dr. Sze stated that it was unnecessary for him to emphasize the obvi-Ous fact that the Japanese had violated all of the established rules of warfare heretofore regarded as "civilized" by the nations of the world, including such matters as the killing of non-combatants, refugees, hospital patients, Red Cross units, etc.."It is obvious," he declared, "that these activities by the Japanese. if unrestrained by international action, will have their echo in the future, possibly the very near future. Assuredly the civilized world cannot neglect its obligations under the League Covenant, Nine Power Treaty, and Kellogg Pact, They were designed to check such activities as Japanese aggression, which began in Manchuria in 1931 and has since resulted in a steady drift toward world chaos."
