Tokyo, Oct. 10.
Every effort will be made by the signatories of the Nine-Power Pact, should they meet in a conference to discuss the Sino-Japanese dispute, to avoid the adoption of any "stronghanded" measures against Japan.
This appeared to be to-night the considered view of diplomatic ob-Servers, Government officials and leading publicists interviewed by Domei.
The Great Powers, it was agreed, would probably strive to bring the dispute to an end by an appeal to the two disputants to cease hostilities and open negotiations.
No step, it was believed, would be taken by the Great Powers against Japan that would be regarded as likely to arouse serious repercussions, Ultimately, it was generally thought, the conferring Powers would refer the entire problem back to the League of Nations.—Domei.
