In North Shansi

Tatung, Oct. 10.

Three Japanese flying columns which consolidated their positions in Pinglu on October 8, occupied the walled town of Yuyu-hsien in northern Shansi yesterday, according to information received by the Japanese military here.

According to military dispatches, the town was occupied at 140 yesterday after the troops covered 80 kilometres in one day. An advance guard of the three columns, the information said, broke through the Great Wall at Shahukou and occupied Liangcheng in Suiyuan Province.

Other military reports said that detachments of Inner Mongolian forces are now making preparations for an attack on Kweisui, capital of Suiyuan. The Inner Mongolian troops, the information asserted, are now at Wuchuen, south of Kweisui.

Front line dispatches to headquarters here also stated that the Chinese are making feverish preparations for a decisive battle with Japanese troops Domei.

Another vessel to use the "safe anchorage" this week will be the Java-China-Japan Line s. Tjikembang, which is arriving from both southern ports and Dairen. A passenger tender, with between 400 and 450 people on board, will leave the Customs Jetty promptly at 8 am. &nd should be back at the Customs Jetty by 4 o'clock in the afternoon with disembarking passengers. The local office of the Java line particularly wish to remind passengers that, as the ship is sailing for Hongkong and Batavia, possession of a cholera inoculation certificate is an absolute necessity. a In connection with the Andre Lebon, which brought nearly 600 passengers from Hongkong last week, the Messageries Maritimes' office in Shanghai state that this ship will be sailing from Kobe on Wednesday, and should, therefore, arrive at the safe anchorage early on Friday. She will be sailing for Marseilles the next day.

The Lloyd Triestino liner Victoria is expected to arrive on Sunday next from Hongkong, and advance reports indicate that she will be carrying every passenger she could possibly accommodate; most of the passengers will be returning evacuees. The Victoria sails for the south again the next day and in addition to her own passengers will probably be carrying a number who will transfer at Hongkong to the Norddeutscher Lloyd liner Potsdam, which sails for European ports from the Colony on Friday, October 22.
