The morale of the Japenese troops at the frónt, which he visited arlier in the week was, according ig General Matsut, "very high," although the soldiers were having considerable difficulty in traversing the muddy roads because of the continuous rains.
General Matsui then added a word of praise for the stamina displayed by the soldiers and the energy demonstrated by Japanese newspapermen in gathering news at the front, "My policy," he declared in conclusion, "is action rather than words."
