Today's Bazaar

Many calls are being made upon the generosof the Shanghai public in the sacred cause of arity, and also for war purposes, but it is felt that x bazaar and fair being held in the grounds of the Cathedral Girls' school this aid of the funds of the Lester an especial call upon the rt of Shanghai residents. This institution serving, and for very m. ars past has served the needs of a class of Chinese which particularly hard hit at the present time. The Hospital itself is badly in need of money, and the Chinese and foreign ladies responsible for this afternoon's function, and who are actively engaged throughout the year in assist-ug the hospital authorities have adopted this of providing the necessary material to ist them in their occupational therapy work. Many of the articles which will be on sale this afternoon have been made by the patients of he Hospital and it will be appreciated that as 1 therapeutic measure the opportunity to en-sage in such work by patients destined to long periods of confinement in hospital cannot in many cases be over-estimated. This particular cause is urged upon.the attention of Shanghai even though a large section of the community s preoccupied with the business of raising funds for war work of different kinds. The latter will appeal very strongly to those whose nationals cre already involved in the great struggle, and they may regard it as a first charge upon thems: lves, but in times such as these extra effort all round is required. It may necessitate giving until it hurts, But it would be serious <rror If local charities were as a result wholly neglected. It is to be honed, therefore, that as many as can will attend the bazaar, and give thereby financial support to a valuable movement which is doing such much good in circles where there is yet so much good to be done.
