VIVID WESTERNS

In "Gunsmoke (Ske-Hacienda," füngton, London, 3/6) Grant Taylor presents a vivid cowboy novel in which crashing pistol shots and hard-riding, shouting men of the plains resound in dramatic incidents along the Mexican border. Renegades and bandits, with of course several honest people, come into conflict—the author dealing with situations, generally speaking, in a logical manner, although occasionally the alert reader might discover minor discrepancies. After her father's murder, Nora Falconer together with other ranchers, decide that better grazing conditions exist south of the border, where also there seems a potential sale for horses. How Cole Courtney, her self-appointed prorector, meets and defeats El Matador, Mexican revolutionist; in a' knife duel brings the romance to a happy culmination and the story to a thrilling conclusion.
