In the late afternoon Japanese planes concentrated on the Kiangwan neighbourhood, and dropped loads of bombs in the neighbourhood of the International Recreation Club. A large fire in that vicinity could be seen from the Settlement, but it was not known whether the damage had been done to the club premises themselves or to buildings just south of them, Almost every main thoroughfare in Chapei and all the highways further out, leading from Tazang, Nanziang, and other points along the front, were bombed and shelled during the Bombs and shells could be seen bursting among the towers of the Chenju wireless station, and some large explosions were noted further to the west. Pootung was also bombed, planes visiting spots near the coast, along the Pootung Road roth near the Pootung Point and further to the south, and dropping a number of missiles well into the interior, in the place which has been bombed regularly during the last few days.
In yesterday's operations Japanese bombers ignored their pledge not to fly over the International Settlement south of the Soochow Creek. Flights passed over buildings on the Bund south of Nanking Road, and circled well into the Central District before turning north to drop their bombs along the Paoshan Road and in the Kiangwan area.
