Pamphlets bearing patriotic slogans were distributed over a wide area in the International Settlement and the French Concession by large groups of Chinese yesterday morning, when national salvation organizations disseminated propaganda on the present hostilities and the Nine Power Treaty Conference at Brussels.
Foreign and Chinese stores, particularly those in the western district were plastered with the following slogans, "Long Live the Republic of China." "Sever all relations with Japan", "Defend Greater Shanghai", ete. These pamphlets were also post-on buses and trams. At several street corners attempts were made by the Chinese to deliver speeches to the spectators, In one of the pamphlets distributed, a brief history of the Nine Power Treaty as well as its significance and China's aspirations at the Brussels Conclave were given. Sanctions against Japan were urged.
To maintain peace and order, the French and Settlement Police dispersed the crowds. At several instances, arrests were made. The men were expected to be cautioned and then set free.
