Tokyo, Nov. 2.
Japan is "displeased and amazed" by the assistance given by Great Britain to China's anti-Japan: actions, the Tokyo "Asahi," one of the capital's two leading newspapers; editorially. declared to-day.
Borrowing Mr. Winston Churchill's remark on India, the "Asahi" declared that "we should like to show not'only China but Great Britain as well, that Japan has a strong heart and an iron hand."
With Britain regarding the Yangtze valley as the sphere of her influence," the daily declared, "It is only natural that she should have been alarmed by the hostilities in Shanghai. It is, however, a source of amazement to Japan that Britain, exceeding the limits of good sense, is helping China whenever China has a dispute with Japan.
