Carnival in Madison Square Garden today was marred by a "silent mani-testation" against Nazi participation in the international contests.
As usual, the flags of all the countries taking part in the Carnival were draped around the huge hall. But a large number of the sports enthusiasts present demanded their money back when they saw the swas-tike emblem flying side by side with other flags such as those of Switzerland, Sweden and Norway.
The German team threatened to withdraw from competition altogether if their emblem was clone to be removed. Thus, to avoid ill-feeling, the promoters of the Carnival decided to remove all flags but the American Stars ana Stripes.—Havas.
