INVOLVED RADIO SITUATION From Our OWN CORRESPONDENT

Mukden, July 22.

Anti-aircraft defence manœuvres were held at various times during the past two years in the principal centres of this country but, this year it was decided to hold country-wide manceuvres simultaneously.

Foreign Consuls advised their fellow-nationals that a communication from the Japanese Consul-General. stating that "in view of the strained situation in North China, emergency ight control will be enforced in the Southern Defence Zone (area south of Mukden as far as Shanhaikuan? until further notice," and requesting ce-operation in such control, had been received.

Another notice was circulated that, "In view of the strained situation in North China, emergency light control and the attendant policing will be enforced from 840 p.m. July 12 until further notice. Cinema houses played to microscopic audiences, dance halls and cafes had less then one third of their usual attendance, while bars and other places of amusement took in scarcely enough cash to cover their overhead.

Kwantung Army Headquarter Goubtless considered it useful practice to issue an emergency order to the Defence Corp, but the first reac-ton was amusing. Several persons, in different towns, made the same explanation, that all street lights were extinguished, because the Japanese leared that Gen. Chiang Kai-shek would send his new aeroplanes over and bomb them.
