Tientsin, July 28.
Four Japanese ships transporting military supplies to Tangku are reported to have encountered tire from the trench mortars of Chinese troops on the banks of the Hai Ho. As a result, the ships put out to sea. Subsequently, however, one of them proceeded to Tangku escorted by armed Japanese cutters which returned the Chinese fire.
The Japanese authorities have requested the Chinese Customs to warn all ships to remain at their berths in the river "pending the punitive operations proceeding at present to drive out the Chinese troops from Taku and vicinity."—Reuter.
