New York, Jan. 11.
Firm and active conditions were witnessed in the cotton market, with values early advancing on higher overseas cables and speculative buying. Later, the advance was accep lorated on spot houses buying and shorts covering. Closing quotations were firm, ranging from 1 to 11 points up from yesterday.
Rubber prices ruled easier today, owing to slightly bearish London wires and lack of outside interest. Commission houses sold, while the trade absorbed some liquidation. At the last call over, losses from 12 to 17 points were registered.
The Chicago Wheat Pit today drifted listlessly in the doldrums, with both selling pressure and demand absent. Operators generally were awaiting the final outcome of the meeting of the International Wheat Advisory Committee in London. Prices were slightly higher on a firm Liverpool market and reports of unfavourable weather. At the final bell, gains of % to % cent. were recorded.
