Berlin, Aug. 11
It is confirmed here that the Salamanca correspondent of the German News Agency, Herr Ritter von Goss, who is at present staying at St. Jean de Luz in France, received an expulsion order from the French Home Ministry.
Authoritative quarters here declare that the measure seemed superfluous and hardly understandable as Herr Goss, who was also press attache to the German Embassy at Salamanca, was only temporarily in the French spa of St. Jean de Luz, His diplomatic credentials were made out for Salamanca and he would in any case have returned to his post soon.
The semi-official German News Agency has issued a statement commenting on the resolution passed by the Foreign Press Association in Berlin which protested in principle against the expulsion of foreign correspondents.
Political quarters in Berlin, the statement says, point out that there will. be hardly any country which will agree with the generalization of the resolution "that foreign correspondents should not be expelled on account of their journalistic activities." The German viewpoint, the statement adds, is that it is the duty of every responsible government which, anxious to quieten the international atmosphere, to draw the necessary conclusions with regard to such Journalists who endanger international relations by their activities—Trans-Ocean. 2
