How correct they were was proved on September 13. The discovery was not quite so novel as it appeared, though this was the first occasion it Ri was made in connection with the present fracas. It is, of course, founded on that passage in the military textbook written by one Hannibal to the effect tha: "It is better to look the enemy straight in the eye than to lay yourself open for a kick in the pants."
