Japanese Claim Chinese Firm Was Under False Colours British flags were flying from the Chinese-owned plant of the China Alcohol Distilling Company in Pootung when the factory was bombed by Japanese naval aircraft on Monday, a Japanese naval spokesman said on Tuesday.
In view of display of the British colours, enquiries were made by the Japanese naval authorities with British Consular officials regarding ihe ownership of the plant.
This investigation required two days, the spokesman stated. When it was ascertained that the flags were being flown illegally, the factory was bombed as it housed a large number of troops and was also being used for the manufacture of military supplies, the spokesman said.
