SHARP TOKYO, NEW YORK PRESS COMMENTS

London, Jan. 14. /ARTICIPATION of three American naval vessels, the light cruisers, Memphis, Trenton and Milwaukee, at the opening of the Singapore Naval Base on February 14, is occasioning some speculation in London.

The announcement is generally interpreted here as possessing significance much beyond that involved in customary naval courtesy.

Its strategic implications, in view of the Far Eastern situation, are obvious.

It is stated in London that the three warships invited belong to the only foreign naval Power asked to be present on this occasion, thus eliminating the suggestion made in some quarters that France, the Netherlands, or even Japan might also attend.
