Barcelona, Jan. 29.
An offer to abstain from the bombardment of open cities if the Nationalists likewise abstain was made to-day by the Republican Government which urges a mutual compromise to eliminate methods of warfare which result in the shedding of innocent blood and the destruction of. cities.
"We are not disposed, however, to perish stupidly," it adds, "nor io allow excessive scruples to prevent us from carrying out our duty bf winning the war at any price."
The Republican command has ordered the air force to carry out reprisals for the bombing of Barcelena, Tarazona and Valencia by attacking Seville, Salamanca and Valladolid.—Reute!
