Prevention Methods Outlined

In view of the prevalence of influenza in certain parts of Japan, the following brief account of the disease and certain elementary precaution: regarding its prevention, etc, have been furnished by the Public Health Department for general information.

Influenza is acutely infectious. Climate, weather conditions, and the general state of health of the community as a rule exert little or no influence on the incidence of the disease. The actual cause has now been shown to be a filterable germ to which persons of all ages and both sexes are susceptible.

The casual germs attack the lining of the nose, throat and lungs and produce in the early stages symptoms practically identical with those of the well-known feverish cold; running eyes, congested nasal passages, headache, fever, shivering, backache, and a general feeling of sickness and weakness are the usual manifestations, Persons developing such symptoms should retire to bed at once and call a'doctor, as of all diseases influenza is the one which least should be neglected.
