The officer-cadet system of former is to be revived in.the Shanghai Municipal Police, it was learned oflicialy yesterday.
The opportunity of advancement to commissioned rank through the scheme is to be offered to qualified men now serving in the Force in the Foreign Branch. It is understood that those now under 30 years of age. who have had police experience and who otherwise meet the requirements leid down, are eligible.
Although the plan encourages the appointment of assistant commissioners from among men of younger years, it does not preclude the advancement of those who have risen through the grades to the rank of superintendent.
One of the chief purposes of the system is to obtain officers who will be able to serve in commissioned posts over a long period of years. Formerly the officer-cadets were brought io Shanghai from Home. Now they will be chosen locally.
