One of the season's most interesting badminton matches, from the point of view of play, took place yesterday evening at the Union Church where the second couples of the Church and the C. S. F, Men's Doubles, 1st Divisions, met, The Union Church sprang a surprise by producing the formidable combination of de Senna and da Silva.
Wilson and Forbes represented the visitors and it was only after a hard fight that they lost the odd set, the scores being 12-15, 15-13 and 15- favour of the Union Church.
The French Club won the toss and allowed the Church to open the play. The first set consisted of good, hard hitting and smashing varied, on a few Occasions, by spectacular net-work on the part of de Senna and Wilson. Da Silva played a very energetic game end produced his famous tumbling act upon more than one occasion. He is, perhaps, too strong at the beginning as a number of his shots fell well behind the base-line, but he steadied down later in the evening. No side ran far ahead upon points and the set closed at 13-15 in favour of the French Club.
