Gay Colour Notes

The embroidery vogue for little jackets and blouses is at its height. One also embroiders dress bodices, scarves and, even, buttons. Paris has introduced us to the dice-shaped button as a finish Those are made from % inch squares of flannel in two different colours. The numbered dots are embroidered in a contrasting shade and the squares are tightly packed with cotton wool so that they do not lose their shape. Suppose the top and bottom surfaces of each button are of white flannel, then the other surfaces may be in black, with the one, two, three, four, five or six dots worked in red.

Lazy daisy stitch is an extremely popular form of embroidery. It is very quickly worked and used large~ ly, as its name implies, for small daisy-like flower It is also used for tiny leaves. One stitch accounts for a small petal or leaf. Start at the centre of flower or stem or leaf.

Bring the needle through from the wrong side. Hold down the thread and insert the needle again at the same place, bringing it out at top of petal.

Keeping thread over needle, pull it up to cover outline of petal. Secure the loop with a small bar stitch, which takes your needle to the back again to start the next petal. This stitch can be employed with good effect on belts, jumpers or capx.
