The New Bishop

Bishop Juvenalius, the newly-arrived head of the Orthodox Church in Shanghai, continues to acquaint himself with the colony. He has visited St. Andrew's Church in Route Vallon where he attentively looked over the many ancient ikons presented by members of ihe congrega-"who themselves had carefully ied them out of different corners of Holy Russia. Later Bishop Juvenahus visited the Russian School in Avenue Petain and familiarized himself with its methods of instruction.

New Year Preparations Russian clubs, and, of course, all Russian restaurants and places of amusement are actively preparing themselves for seeing in the New Year. As one Ri in newspaper put it: "Inasmuch as none of us knows what will happen to us and where we will find ourselves one year from now, we should try to meet the year 1938 in Shanghai as cheerfully and merrily as possible—in Shanghai where so far we have lived happy independently, unhampered and, on the whole, not badly off."
