Renewed tations from the Shanghai Municipal Couñcii's ed cational staff of assistant masters and mistresses for a re-classification of their posts led the Staff Committee to consider whether sufficient reasons existed for re-opening this subject.
After hearing the views of the Ee tendent of Education, it was agreed that further investigation was warranted, and the Committee decided to recommend certain modification in the existing system of ciassifica~ tion. In the Professional and Technical Grade—Education—Grades 2E (d) Land 2E (e) I are placed University Graduates with professional training and certificates. ~*Professionally Trained and Certificated nongraduates, Grades 2E (d) IT and 2E (e) LI, may be promoted to Grade I for satisfactory work and teaching ability after nine years' service. It was recommended that Gradë 2E (d) I Assistant Masters and Grade 2E (e) I Assistant Mistresses be made Grades providing for classification ^A" but with certain modifications in the benefits of Class "A" service as affecting married female employees. Under the new ruling Grade~ I teachers continue to be classified as "B" but on promotion t Grade I become eligible for the benefits of classification "A" on completion of 14 service.
The Council has adopted the recommendation of the Staff Committee.
