Diary of Miss Hu Lan-chi Published in Hankow Hankow, Apr. 1.
Immense interest has been aroused here by the publication of the diary of Miss Hu Lan-chi, Chinese girl writer and leader of the Chinese Women's War Area Service Corps, concerning the activities of her corps behind the lines on the eastern front—the area between Shanghai, Hangchow, Nanking and Wuhu.
Time and again, according to Miss Hu, her group of twenty unarmed girls stopped demoralized retreating Chinese soldiers and persuaded them to return to the front.
Their other activities included the urging of Chinese villagers to return to wartern districts to assist the Chinese army in the way of transportation of wounded, supplies and counter-espionage work behind the front lines.
Miss Hu started work with only ten factory workers attached to the 19th Army Corps, commanded by General Lo Cho-ying, whose troops defend Kiating, north-west of Shanghai. Now she has fifty girls—
