For Soember Mas Estate a new continuous sheeting battery, a 16 h.p. engine and an electric Light installation and for Kali Padang Estate an electric generator, switch board, underground cable and a water pump.
A new safe for Soember Mas Estate and new house and office furniture for both estates cost a total of 195912.
During the current year the estimates call for a total expenditure of £38,350.—on Capital Account, the bulk of which will be for new buildings on both estates, a continuous sheeting battery {or Kali Padang Estate and a new motor truck.
This intensive rebuilding programme has been rendered necessary by the fact that very little new building has been done on either of the estates since they were first acquired in 1910 and the damage done by the ehuxion of time and repeated earthquake shocks had brought them to a stage where repl&cement was at last essential Also the Government regulations now call for Coolie Lines of a more permanent type than formerly.
The expenditure on new machinery and the modernization of the rubber factory will be repaid in a few years by the saving on the cost of manufacture.
